From playing Dreamsurges on day of release, it looks like some of the best ways to farm these currency/items are to (in order):

Complete The Weekly Dreamsurge Quest (you farm x100)
Killing rares (~x25 per)
Closing portals at the top of every hour, or smaller portals not marked on map. (~x40 per)
Certain world quests (x10 per)
The Dragon Isles Supplies nodes, (~x3-5 per)
Flying through green orbs that may be along your way (~x2-5 per)

Things that weren't really efficient, or reward any coalescence (as of the day of release):

Onh'ahran Hunt Events
Herb/Mining
World PvP

The rewards include two pets: 切达 & 猩红小龙蛙, two toys - 情涌防御者 & 梦涌残叶, and one mount! 暗翼欧胡纳. Beyond these, the purpose of this currency is for 10.2 preparation catch-up gear &/or transmog.

After a little bit of farming & obtaining these rewards, this item can be safely deleted as it has no further use (and probably why it isn't in the currency pouch to begin with).

Armor purchased with this currency is eligible to be converted in the catalyst to obtain LFR class set appearances and tier bonuses from the Aberrus raid. Upgrade them to 415 to get the normal recolor.

Sources for 梦涌凝珠:

Collect by flying in the current Dreamsurge zone. Found under arches/ bridges. Gives around 5 梦涌凝珠 per. Looks like https://imgur.com/a/OReLCxX
Click on 梦寐增生 found randomly on the ground. Gives 1 梦涌凝珠. Looks like https://imgur.com/a/6oAB4Jy
Kill mobs in the Dreamsurge zone. Gives 1 梦涌凝珠 per.
Do world quests in Dreamsurge zone. Seems to give around 10 梦涌凝珠 at the end, plus the 1 梦涌凝珠 you get per quest mob.
Recommended: Kill empowered rares in Dreamsurge zone--this is the 2nd most profitable. I got 24 梦涌凝珠 from 1 empowered rare. (It announces in chat when a rare is empowered.)
The addon Vignette Announcer (not mine, all credits to author) puts clickable coordinates in chat to create a waypoint to the empowered rare once it's announced. So convenient.
Recommended: Kill the boss from the fire portal that pops up in the Dreamsurge zone every 30 minutes. You will see a fire portal icon appear on the zone map at the top of the hour and 30 min after the hour. This gives 39 梦涌凝珠, making it the most profitable. If in Waking Shores, it's at /way The Waking Shores 41.1, 77.3. In Ohn'ahran Plains, it's at /way Ohn'ahran Plains 21.4, 60.3. In Azure Span, it's at /way The Azure Span 33, 40 In Thaldraszus, it's at /way Thaldraszus 61.5, 26.5.

*If you are on an alt and you cannot see the rares in the Obsidian Citadel, go to /way The Waking Shores 25.1, 56.5 . Talk to 卡伦多尔姆 and say you want to skip through to unlock Obsidian Citadel. (This will only work if you already unlocked on a main, of course)

So, a fair amount of work, to get a new currency (not BoA) that takes up space in our bags, all to buy gear we already have, and is probably already maxed out, if we had just done some weekly raids on LFR?

Wow. Thanks Blizz. You can't imagine how happy this makes me. That retching sound you hear in the background is nothing new to Blizz though.

Seriously. Make the gear at least a little better. This is a new season after all. Give us some reason to keep on playing.

While I appreciate the mechanic of collecting these by flying around, having the loot pop up over the top of my vigor bar during dragon races is really distracting.
I'm not sure why they put them in the path of the new challenge races given the loot pop up is a thing.

Update: I just flew a race today and there was no popup for the dreamsurge coalescence! It still shows when I'm flying around, but not during a dragon race. So I think they've patched this.

One of the best ways to farm 梦涌凝珠 is by killing regular mobs that hyperspawn.

For example, in Ohn'ahran Plains you can kill 石颚蜥蜴. With a full party, you will kill thousands of these mobs and you will get 400+ 梦涌凝珠 per hour.

If you need a lot of this currency, because you want to collect everything, this is the best way. You don't have to fly around hunting rares, you don't need to kill the boss every 30 minutes. You can just kill mobs in one place and alongside the currency, you will get plenty of other stuff, so you can make a bit of gold.

暗翼欧胡纳 - 1000

梦涌残叶 - 500
切达 - 250

Grand total: 2500

I believe the fastest way to get these is by killing empowered rares in the current dreamsurge zones, took me around 10 min to get 100 for the quest.
Grabbing the floating orbs in the zone gives less than 5 and you are competing with others for them as well.

I was thinking about the use for spare dreamsurge coalescences: both pets can be found for as low as 1,3k gold each in eu AH on the right realm, an amount that nowadays is quick to do no matter the method, while 250 dreamsurges in my experience take quite a bit more.

Therefore, isn't getting 402 boa gear tokens for alts a better use for this currency? Can get 5 gear tokens for the price of 2 pets.

Don't know if it's just Demon Hunter or something change since yesterday but the Dreamsurge coalescence in Valdrakken are no longer counting for the 100, my Demon Hunter has 178 in her bag from today but only 59 counted for the quest!

not a currency due to these becoming useless in a short time, for those gearing up

otherwise, there is a bug in gathering these.
sometimes i get 5, mostly 2 per green orb i fly thru.
many times it is not counted towards that needed 100 to complete the quest
