During BlizzCon, members of the media, including Wowhead, were able to have an open Q&A with Associate Game Director,
Joseph Piepiora
and Diablo 4 Production Director,
Tiffany Wat
. In this group interview, the team hinted at big plans for itemization, what players should expect from future content, and the possibility of saved loadouts.
Diablo 4 BlizzCon Opening Ceremony Diablo 4 Expansion Announced
Will we ever see loadouts in Diablo 4?
That is an interesting idea. That is something we are actually really excited about and it's something we're talking about. We don't have a date, and I'm not announcing anything, but we like the idea of allowing players the ability to go ahead and change between different sets of gear, or between different builds, different Paragon Board builds, and PvP builds. It's something we're talking about internally.
Will Malignant Rings become permanent items within the game?
We don't want to ruin any surprises, but being able to bring some of those powers back, with some modifications could be fun.
Why did you decide to attach Boss summoning materials to timegated content?
We wanted every piece of endgame content to tie into summoning these endgame bosses, and we didn't want players to feel that any one piece of endgame content was not worth doing, so we wanted to attach additional incentives to each of them. We have reduced the time between World Boss spawns and Legion events to help alleviate the downtime between being able to earn these resources, but it's something that we're still working on. We also wanted the playerbase to be able to trade for these materials so that they don't feel like they're completely locked out of the content.
Will we be visiting any familiar zones in Vessel of Hatred?
If you've played Diablo 2, in Act III you have the opportunity to fight Mephisto, and you enter this zone through the Kurast Docks. That is the region that we will be revisiting in the expansion. It has been 72 years since Diablo 2, so being able to see how the people in this area have changed over time will be interesting.
When the new expansion comes out, will there be a new level cap?
We don't have any details to share about that, but the expansion will feature a brand-new Campaign, continuing the previous Campaign of Diablo 4. Players who are new to Diablo 4 will be able to skip the original Campaign and head straight into the Vessel of Hatred Campaign. Players will receive a summary of who Neyrelle is, why Mephisto is trapped in the soulstone, and what has happened so far in Diablo 4.
With Vessel of Hatred coming late next year, is Diablo 4 still committed to annual expansions?
We have teams working on multiple expansions, however, there is no additional information about these other expansions or release dates available at this time.

We're never going to see another live Q&A for any Blizzard game again, are we?
