Spodderman infiltrated WoW Dev team and proposed these changes using Out of Game methods.
What reasoning is there for this, out of curiosity? Like, for both why would you want to use it over an in-game meter, and also why does Blizz not want people using overlays?
Incoming people complaining about blizzard working in tandem with microsoft to encourage more pc sales because older computers with ddr4 ram could have difficulty holding/final writing of combat logs without noticeable game lag.
Maybe don't introduce stupid mechanics that require addons or overlays like Hearts on Echo of Nel.
Great change having 100s of megabyte of trash in memory making the game crash at the end only to prevent something only a few players even care about. Once more it's clear they develop the game for the few dozens RWF raiders and not for the majority
All of this because they couldnt help themselves and make a completely unnecessary support spec.
This is simply not the way to deal with this specific issue, and they will feel it once its out in the wild imo. 1 overlay was made for Heart on Nelth (because it was a brain damaged mechanic btw) and this is the recourse from blizzard. Complete overcorrection and could be done completely different to tackle the same issue like discussed in the article.
Few hundred MB extra memory doesn’t seem too bad. Is this a typo and they meant GB?Still a stupid change because they can’t stay away from excessive mechanics like the Echo encounter.
It's really entertaining watching all these people act like they know what this is even meant to address when they clearly have no idea
Wouldn't be *too* much of an issue if WoW already ran smoothly on modern hardware and took proper advantage of multi-threading. Alas...
Wouldn't want people knowing actual numbers in this 20 year old spaghetti code game. You would think instead of investing their time into removing features that players actually want they would focus instead on making new features that players want. Or better yet... making a dps log in game with no use for an addon. But this is Blizzard we are talking about. These devs are the types to change pictures of women into fruits. That's the kind of stuff they put their time and effort into. And then they wonder why retail player numbers are dropping faster than Budweiser's stock price.
