She told us that the Flame was just using us, that there was nothing for us with them. She wanted us to escape, but Thael argued we'd be abandoning our only chance at a new home.
Would a new home require us to burn innocent creatures? Solarys was right. This is no family. This is a cult.Kal'anduAfter all that has happened, I am admittedly struggling with what comes next. Where do we go from here? Who could possibly forgive the things we've done?
Why did you join the Druids of the Flame?
My siblings and I joined the Flame out of desperation. After... after Teldrassil, we lost our connection to nature. We could only conjure fire. It was as though we were haunted, cursed. We became outcasts among the refugees.
Then, we were approached by a face we knew from Teldrassil -- Firodren, our Shan'do from our herbal studies in Darnassus -- who offered us a place we could belong. A place we could make a difference for our people.
Why would you believe them?
We were desperate. Thaeldus was always one of Firodren's promised. He sought drive, a goal.
Lyandris, compassionate and kind, saw the opportunity to help others. Losing her healer's touch devastated her.
Solarys just wanted to protect us. Before we went to the Flame, she warned us that there would be no turning back. I think she was suspicious from the start. But their honeyed words convinced us otherwise.
I wanted to stay with my family. I missed our An'da. who died saving us. I pledged to follow my siblings to the ends of the world.
When we joined, it was admittedly a relief. Maybe, after all the pain. we could find peace again! Oh, how I was mistaken.
What do you mean?
My idealism made me naive. I thought that I could create a world where nobody would lose their home like we had. My siblings felt similarly.
We never knew immortality like our elders had. The thought of new life coming from of the ashes of a world that has never been kind to my younger generation, a phoenix's dawn--that is what swayed us.
I watched as the Prophet and even Firodren twist the tenets of druidism to their own gain. What were lessons of renewal and hope became corrupt, consuming.
They told us that we must unify into one, to disregard our individual needs for the greater cause. That if we must. we were to be the fuel for the flames ourselves. To martyr ourselves so others may achieve victory.
How do you feel now that you've escaped?
I feel as though my convictions are my own, now. If it weren't for Solarys constantly questioning our orders. I would have given in to the Flame.
She realized that we were blindly repeating history, but we could not escape before we entered the Dream. I shudder to think of the horrors we'd have committed, had we stayed.
The Druids of the Flame are not misguided. They are malicious, greedy, and prideful. It is the same hubris that cost past generations their immortality.
What will you do now?
I want no more part in senseless violence--l want to preserve what's left of my family. I have countless regrets for my actions, and I first must take responsibility for them.
I am scared, but hopeful. We are young. There's much to discover still. I do not know where our paths will go. The uncertainty of change is intimidating, yes, but an opportunity nonetheless.
It will be hard to heal, and hard to right our wrongs. But it is all we can do in the face of our past actions.

Why do they have to have some sort of trauma, guilt or second guesses about what they’re doing?Comment by IkusameThe only problem I have with the timing of this is that, by my (flawed) calculations, Nordrassil is “destroyed” in the year 21, which is when the Night Elves lost their immortality. Dragonflight is currently in the year 40.

Elves still live an extremely long time, and per Blizzard have lifespans several thousand years, probably as long as the High Elves and their derivatives, which can be almost 8,000 years if not more.

This would make current Night Elves born after Hyjal something like 20 years old.

Now, I do not ascribe to the idea that longer lifespans mean that the race basically ages longer. Rather, it makes more sense that a long-lived race may achieve fecundity at a later point in life, and that cultural milestones would be paced accordingly.

I just don’t think enough time has “cooked” for there to be this generational gap, as we would naturally have between those who recall life before the War of the Ancients and those born during or after where all they knew was life within the forest: a life informed by the Night Elf commitment to Nature and the Emerald Dream.

I get that Blizzard wants to introduce a “younger” generation, but they keep forgetting that their elves are long-lived and 20 years really isn’t that much time in the grand scheme of things.

Without their immortality, we don't know exactly how long a Night Elf lives. It is said that the Night Elves now share a similar lifespan as their High and Blood Elven cousins. And while Blood Elf and High Elf age are suspect, it still puts Night Elves far and beyond other Azerothian races.

Night Elf aging also appears to be the same as human aging up to a point, with Shandris Feathermoon being an adolescent during the War of the Ancients and looking the part. As well, children have started 'growing up' on Teldrassil, meaning that within the less 8-10 years since Teldrassil's growth they have matured steadily into teens. Around the Night Elf's 20s to 30s the aging process slows or stops.

Speculation: The first few centuries of a Night Elf’s life are presumably nothing like the first 18 years of a human life. This is inferred because the first few centuries of a Night Elf's life, when they are still considered youth in their society, spans the entire life expectancy of a human twice over. This means that young adulthood for a Night Elf is similar to living two full human lives.

Tyrande Whisperwind was roughly 13,836 during the Warcraft III campaign. Malfurion and Illidan Stormrage were 15,032. Add ten years since that time and that is their present age. "Evil for the sake of being evil" is boring Saturday-morning-cartoon stuff, and we've had plenty of that already, as long as we don't spend weeks playing therapist for them like we did for the dragons, (former) villains with motivations are more interesting than "Mwahahaha! I feel like people who criticize WoW's story these days just has an immediate negative reaction to any story telling with more depth than a puppy's piss puddle. Eredar havent choice to join the Legion, they die or they join.

At least the flame druids have a vision for the Kaldorei. At this point I'd rather they burnt the new tree.
