There is no truth to what he's saying. The real reason he and other WoW players are upset and harbor an antipathy for Final Fantasy 14 and allegedly not towards other MMOs is because it alone is a rival to WoW. In the decade that Final Fantasy 14 (post-A Realm Reborn) has been around, WoW players have had a really huge head about it. "Oh, it's just a weeb game." "Lmao who would ever play this? WoW is King of MMOs", the usual dismissive comments. Yes, there was enough mockery and handwaving of FF14's entire existence to fill a landfill, so that alone rips apart the entire notion that "FF14 players started/instigated it!" (Unless, of course, one feels that WoW and WoW players are entitled to special treatment and should be able to be toxic to other games and their communities without ramifications.)
What a complete rewrite of the history.
When FF14 launched, as is the case with most new MMOs (New World probably being the most recent example) , fans of the MMO genre were really hopeful it would do well, be fun, and become a stable long lasting game. FF14's initial launch was horrible. It's re-launch "We fixed the game. Trust us."-The Devs wasn't immediately believed. And up until it's first expansion Heavensward, you didn't really have any buzz or talk about the game at all within the WoW community. So saying there has been animosity from the start is a huge fabrication.
If my memory is correct, a lot of prominent wow creators, like Towelliee for example, tried out that expansion because the marketing behind it was really good, its reputation was on the mend amongst the gaming community, and WoW was stuck in the middle of WoD with no content. Hellfire citadel went live the day the HW officially launched. So you had plenty of people playing FFs early access > a brief stop back into WoW raiding > right back to FF. rofl. People enjoyed HW more than WoD, and the FF community wasn't this aggressive intolerant thing back then(8 years ago). But within the last 2-3 years, they've become this visibly awful thing. Wasn't it just last year you had people reporting a FF14 streamer out of dislike (and successfully getting them a temp ban) for what was assumed to be use of XIVlauncher (addons have had this "don't ask don't tell" thing going on forever as SEs openly talked about unofficial stance)... what a great community. /s Toxic as heck.

A complete rewrite of the story... that is corroborated by your very own post.
No WoW player had any issues with XIV existing until the game started being a potential threat to "WoW's throne". But there was dismissiveness. It's unironically a case of "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you." XIV went from being ignored because it was less popular than New World is now, to being mocked because it was starting to gain momentum but it was still nowhere near WoW, to being loathed because it stepped on WoW's feet.

Honestly, this is just so petulant, I don't want to be associated with people who play WoW because you can get so far up your own ass. The 14 community is known for being welcoming and nice, and your baseless insinuations that they're actually incredibly toxic comes off as dishonest at best. You have, on display, a litany of WoW players losing their heads bc FFXIV news was posted on THEIR SITE FOR ONLY THEIR NEWS. Acting like 14 players are the problem when you just handwave away this terrible behavior makes you seem disingenuous.
