I did the tutorial for the mount, and I can't stop playing. It's got an old-school pokemon feel, and while it's grindy it's not so bad that I feel the need to spend money on it.
Not terribly impressed with it. A lot less effort visualwise was made on it compared to the base Hearthstone game.
As a person who came from HS then switched to LoR - I can say that visually hearthstone doesn't catch my eye at all. Small portraits look like ^&*! and only the new "diamond" cards are somewhat beautiful. Therefore - I was coming for gameplay only and this mode is something else. At the moment there aren't many resources on the mode and even HTD mentioned in the article is almost empty. So figuring out synergies and building decks is awesome. I don't like the grindiness for specific merc coins as this was taken from mobile games (complete level X to get specific mercenary coins + a chance at your owned merc's coins) but in general leveling up and gearing up mercs feels rewarding. PvP is definitely cool especially when you know the abilities but I often get matched with bots in PvP due to lack of players. All in all - I really think this game mod is great and it allows the variety and outplays not possible in regular HS.
Guys even if you don't like card games try this game mode, it's pokemon but with warcraft characters and even though it's kind of grindy it doesn't really feel that way. If you want some tips, level up Cariel Xyrella and Samuro first, specially Xyr and Samuro, they're absolutely broken.
I installed, ran the initial Mercenaries content to enable the WoW mount, finished out a map, and uninstalled. Not because it's terrible. In fact, because it's not terrible, and I could see it becoming a desirable time and money sink. Which I actually don't desire.I got away with the free taste and I have no intention of letting myself get hooked.
I haven't played much Hearthstone since Naxxramas patch but the Mercenary Mode took me with a blast.I honestly wish they made the Shadowlands Mission Table like this instead of the boring ''Several hours AFK waiting for mission'' type of deal. This honestly have a potential in future content in WoW.
I really liked this a lot. I've played it for like 20 min a day since it came out.Like dude above mentioned, I wish this was how mission tables were. Even if I had all mundane average Joe NPCs, I would love to have this exact setup. Lemme level up my adventurers and actually play through the missions. If they still want things to be on a timer, just put the adventurers on a cooldown. :p
I have been playing primarily demons, Jaraxus, mannoroth, thefelguardidontrememberhisname. Tons of fun. If your first round goes well, round 2 the felguard will summon an extra demon, Jaraxus executes a guy then triple slaps all the while Manny either slightly heals by attacks or weakens physical chars with howl. Having a lot of fun
Played for the mount, but it's often fun to jump in for 2-4 rounds. I like it, but just as some casual side-game
I think an article on the story presented with Mercenary Mode would be interesting. I love Hearthstone's take on adventuring in Warcraft, it is much closer to what so many people are asking for (people being adventurers instead of constantly being chosen ones, things not always being so high stake).
I started this just for the mount, however. I suck at traditional Hearthstone, but I love Mercenaries. It's a bit more noob-friendly to pick up, I found, but at the same time team composition etc makes it more than simple tank and spank, especially come Winterspring. I've previously been a whale in gacha so I'm trying to restrain myself, lol.
