Why is the back split? Really want one of these with connected back and longer, in like a proper King's cape style with the white lining and black dots.

Would be cool if they could line the cloth up with current cloaks so it's mostly seamless, make it longer to match, and hook it up & expand the current cloak animation rig so that the sway matches. Interesting way to manage it.
So place jetpack on top of it, and it will almost be an mandalorian armor
They're shoulder items because then you can alternate the shoulders and combine them with an existing cloak. The gap exists presumably for an existing cloak item to blend into while the shoulders create the illusion of it being draped over completely, either partially or completely. I'm assuming these will be paired with the cloaks we already we've been buying from the Trading Post.So I think once we start combing them people will relax. You're only seeing the shoulder mog part of it without the additional cloak. Or rather, I think they'll start releasing new ones since the old ones aren't an exact match so far as seen above.Either that or they're intended to be paired with the Scarf item.
I LOVE these! However, they do not look finished, many of the "Matching" names to the trading post sets do not actually match color correctly. Also they do not look like they have any movement visuals while walking / running in the dressing room. But transmog wise, these are cool!
The reason it doesn't connect in the back is because you are "supposed" to only equip one side. This is like the cape Ezio wears in assassin's creed 2. It is progress towards real big capes though, like Arthas had. I don't mind if they are equiped in the shoulder slot. It's basically what Anduin is wearing in the next expansion.

It's meant as an over the shoulder cloak transmog. It's meant to be a single shoulder transmog. It's listed as shoulder's so you can have only one. You're all *!@#ing %^&*!@ed.
Yeah, I think people don't seem to understand it's meant to be a single shoulder cloak and look asymmetrical. It doesn't help that it's modeled in a weird way with both of them to show that it can go on either side.
THESE ARE SHOULDERSThat’s why they don’t connect. The idea is you can wear these with a cape of your choice. You can have it drape over one shoulder for example and matching cloak color on the back. I MUCH prefer these being shoulders rather than cloaks.
I absolutely love this style for the cloaks, but they need to be a bit smaller. I know this is the world of over-sized shoulders, but bigger isn't always better, lol
Looks like it's gonna take up the shoulder slot. That's dumb. You'll have to choose between shoulder armor and a derpy over-the-shoulder cloak that doesn't connect in the back.
Do we even want to know how clipping will look with that in animations?
They look so derpy. The colors don't even match the trading post back pieces so you can't really combine them. Hopefully these are incomplete, otherwise won't be caught dead wearing them!
I'd probably buy 2 maybe 3 color variations to see what I can do with them, but this is not an instant buy as the hood/scarf + cloak items were (unless these over the shoulder mogs are going to sell for a very tiny amount).The thing I dislike most is actually the buckle.
