Rise of Shadows: Dalaran in Hearthstone's Alternative Universe
In the last couple of years, Hearthstone went from a funny Warcraft franchise spin-off to becoming a true alternative universe of World of Warcraft.
Hearthstone’s upcoming expansion Rise of Shadows looks to be the pinnacle of Warcraft fan service in card game form, including hommages to old friends, portrayal of current storylines and foreshadowing in regards to upcoming WoW content.

The Tortollans - A Hearthstone Tribe made it into the World of Warcraft!
Hearthstone lore has its fundamental roots in the World of Warcraft. For the longest time, this relationship has been unilateral, mostly because it was labeled as the “Heroes of Warcraft” fan-service game from the very start.
Luckily, Hearthstone developed its own lore and content over the last expansions. Story and fantasy seem to be a much bigger focus nowadays, and the culmination of all that was discovered in last October: For the first time ever, Hearthstone-exclusive content made it to the World of Warcraft! The Tortollans, a card art tribe, got their own quest hubs and story lines within the Battle for Azeroth.
How did this event influence the connection between Hearthstone and WoW, why did Team 2 choose the Tortollans, and most importantly: what does all this mean for the future?

Rastakhan’s Rumble - Battle for Azeroth’s Alternative Universe
As it is every year during December, Hearthstone receives an expansion. That alone is nothing special, but the name of that particular expansion - announced at Blizzcon three weeks ago - made Warcraft fans’ hearts flutter: Rastakhan’s Rumble! Once again Hearthstone picks up not only general Warcraft lore but also recent events and storylines of WoW to use it as its core expansion theme. It’s not the first time Blizzard decides to double-down on cross-promoting their content between franchises.
But what could Rastakhan’s Rumble mean to Battle for Azeroth and the upcoming 8.1 patch, how does it compare to the “original storyline”, and what does the future of these two Blizzard franchises look like?

The Ghost of Prince Liam - Hearthstone's Take on Warcraft Lore
The release of “The Witchwood”, Hearthstone’s upcoming expansion, is near, and the new set brings a ton of old and new friends from the World of Warcraft with it. The setting’s fantasy revolves around the Witchwood, or, as WoW players may know it, the Blackwald, a small forest on Gilneas. On last Monday's final reveal stream, one revealed card particularly stands out:
Prince Liam
, Genn Greymane's dead son, seems to make a return in one of Blizzard's franchises.
With the newest expansion, Hearthstone tries to shape the history of Warcraft like it never did before. What is in store for World of Warcraft lore fans with the release of “The Witchwood”, what happens to the Worgen, and what does Liam have to do with it?
