Let's hope they nerf the proto dragons or buff the effect of the spear. The allegedly weakened proto-dragons keep killing my evoker (in beta). Granted the character is undergeared and not being played optimally, but that's likely to be the case with most of the evokers attempting this quest. I'm sure I could do it on my M+ geared main, but soloing this with my noob evoker is nigh impossible. Got one down with some luck, another with the aid of another player who happened by, but it's late at night and I'm going to have to wait until more people are around to get the third one.

This has to be bugged. The spear does nothing, their damage is insane...and this is a story quest so it HAS to be done. Quests like this literally make me want to stop playing the game.

Do not go BACK to turn this quest in. There are two Majordomos-- both with ?'s above their head. If you go backwards through the cave (to the place you picked up the quest), you won't be able to turn it in. Go deeper into the caves.

There are two Majordomo Selistra's in the Flashfrost area.

The first one is near the dungeon, where you pick up the quest (and is the one this quest incorrectly tells you to go to to hand it in),
The second one will be the one you'll actually need to hand this quest into and is located at /way 53.69, 80.21

Holy crap this is insane. I have like 80k hp (from dungeon gear) and I'm getting obliterated. Even as an evoker (devesatation) and the spear damage I'm getting trounced, or I get knocked into other enemies from the buffeting effect and get rofltomped. This needs to be nerfed or something, make the spears do more or make them non-elites.

Edit: After killing Klozic the Ascended in the middle of the area the spears semed to do about 80k in damage. I don't know if it's a bug or some sort of requirement, but hooboy what a nightmare to kill the dragons, but I did.

Hi all

I present You Storyline In Defense of Life. This Storyline is part of Waking Hope which is criteria for Loremaster of the Dragon Isles.

Storyline in order I done it:

1. For the Benefit of the Queen - Speak with Majordomo Selistra 55 30.9 then He will take you to Queen 62.3 72.9 , You need to speak with Her and Movie will start
2a. The Mandate of the Red - Speak with 4 NPC in order: 60.7 74 Xius, 59.4 72.4 Akxall, 61.5 68.7 Mother Elion and 62.7 70.4 Zahkrana. Don't do Training Wings Pick it up but go first to do Dragonriding.
2b. Dragonriding - Speak with Lord Andestrasz to get Your DRAGON MOUNT ! After conversation You will get Renewed Proto-Drake and learn Dragonriding. Now every time You use Renewed Proto-Drake Dragonriding will be activated.
4. How to Glide with Your Dragon - Use Renewed Proto-Drake then jump off the platform and fly through the circles then land 57.4 59.1 when you will finish quest NPC will teleport You back. When You press jump button You will fly up, Skill 1 Is going fast forward and ect. FROM THIS QUEST IS START GUIDE HOW TO USE DRAGONS FLY.
5. How to Dive with Your Dragon - Use Renewed Proto-Drake then jump off the platform and fly through the circles then land 57.4 59.1 when you will finish quest NPC will teleport You back. Reward Bronze Timepiece
6. How to Use Momentum with Your Dragon - Use Renewed Proto-Drake then jump off the platform and fly through the circles then land 57.4 59.1 when you will finish quest NPC will teleport You back. Reward Bronze Timepiece
7. The Skytop Observatory - Use Renewed Proto-Drake then jump off the platform and fly through the circles then land 75.1 55 and speak with Lord Andestrasz.
8. A New Set of Horns - Use Rostrum of Transformation 74 58.1 is a platform on ground big but i did not see at start xD. Reward Rostrum Cipher Now You can costomize Your Dragon.
9. Dragon Glyphs and You - Collect Dragon Glyph 74.3 57.5 is over ground then speak with Lithragosa ( 2nd option ) to open dragon skills now you can learn new skill. After all speak with Celormu.
10. Return to the Ruby Lifeshrine - Fly to Queen Alexstrasza the Life-Binder 62.3 72.9.
11. Training Wings - Now You can go back to this Quest. Use Ruby Whelpling to Kill: 12 Agitated Weedling, 6 Intrusive Pupstinger and 1 Relentless Gust. I use instant kill 1 for killing and skill 2 to move lower lever to get to other mobs.
12. Who Brought the Ruckus? - Follow Alexstrasza the Life-Binder to 59.6 72.5 Movie will start.
13. The Primary Threat - Fly to Commander Lethanak 59.4 75.9
14. Basalt Assault - Slay 4 Enraged Cliff 59.2 78.2 , 60.9 77.7 , 57.7 76.3 are 2 of them. During this Quest You can do Clear the Battlefield auto Quest.
15a. Egg Evac - Rescue 4 eggs: Azure Egg 57.3 83.2, Bronze Egg 56.1 81.2, Ruby Egg 55 81, Emerald Egg 55.3 83.2
15b. Proto-Fight - Kill 3 Elite Proto-dragons use Ruby Spear for pull and extra dmg to kill them fast.
17. Cut Off the Head - Kill Jadzigeth 53.5 83.4 Use Ruby Spear to do it fast then Movie will start.
18. Exeunt, Triumphant - Fly to 46.1 78.3 and speak with Majordomo Selistra Video will start, Storyline will finish after that.

Main Rewards During This Storyline are: Renewed Proto-Drake, learn using Dragons Skills and Costomize them, As well You will Get Renewed Proto-Drake: Spined Tail, Renewed Proto-Drake: Subtle Horns, Renewed Proto-Drake: Finned Crest, Renewed Proto-Drake: Curved Horns.

It's worth noting that the Ruby Spear has a 10 second cool-down. So, in addition to your routine skills and buffs and pots, you should start the fight with each elite Proto-Dragon using the Ruby Spear and hit it promptly as it cools down.

Do what the quest says and use the spear each time the cooldown is up. The dragons have the tendency to either fear, or knock you in to trouble so best to keep a clear area to fight in. If you have a character that can apply DoTs, even better. If not, it's just a simple case of spearing/fighting until it's over. I'm a shadow priest for leveling and not exactly confident in my abilities, but this can be done if you just keep spearing.

The Ruby Spear does not do any damage on its own, but applies a debuff that greatly increases your damage againt the afflicted drake. I wish the quest would mention that to save players time and unnecessary confusion.

To turn in, if you followed the question mark on the mini-map you need to back track. Go to Ruby Life Pools in Walking Shores. The lower left curved tip (/way 53.73 80.15) is the turn in for Majordomo Selistra.

For the record my turn in for the quest was at the same location I picked it up...although the map had the other location.

Also to note, I only had proto-flight...the other quest had the turn in at the other location.

Here's how this quest can be done with an Evoker (level 63, 58'160 hitpoints, average item level 238, devastation spec), without using any healing spells or health potions.

Choose a proto that's resting on the ground. The most important thing is to stay out of the proto's attack radius, and this is easier done when the fight takes place on the ground. Also, a proto flying overhead can be difficult to locate and occasionally go out of reach of your spells. As far as I could tell, the spear need only be used once, near the start of the fight. It will not really damage the proto, but will install a debuff causing the proto to suffer much more damage and have weakened attacks.

Approach the dragon just enough so that your Fire Breath and Eternity Surge become applicable. Here's the list of spells to cast:

1) Fire Breath (Empower I - to install a DoT)
2) Ruby Spear
3) Eternity Surge (Empower I)
4) Disintegrate
5) Turn around and cast Hover to get out of reach
6) Deep Breath (and teleport back if you have the "Recall" talent)
7) Wing Buffet (if the proto is getting too close)
8) Living Flame (attack spell on the dragon)
9) Disintegrate
10) Azure Strike (if needed to finish him off)

I chose to use Fire Breath before throwing the spear, since it needs a short time to build up (even to empower level 1). An alternative might be to cast "Tip the Scales" (if you have it), then open the fight with the spear, immediately followed by Fire Breath at full power.

If Hover is on cooldown, jump and glide (double-tap the spacebar) can be used to get away, but this is not as effective. Here's a list of talents in my build which are useful for this fight (some more than others):

- Permeating Chill
- Natural Convergence
- Innate Magic
- Tailwind
- Tip the Scales
- Arcane Intensity
- Eternity Surge
- Lay Waste
- Honed Aggression
- Heat Wave
- Tyranny
- Catalyze

At the end of the fight, you should have 25-50% hitpoints left. And the same technique also works brilliantly on Jadzigath, by the way.

i use the spear on CD. i shouldn't be having a problem using a boomkin.. is my gear bad? What's going on with this xpac and there being just MOUNTAINS of frustration at every turn?

I'm just begging in general chat for a half hour and not a single person can/will help and my guild is actually dead. Main story quests SHOULD NOT REQUIRE ANYTHING BEYOND SOLO. I literally just want to experience the story and hit with this ball busting nonsense. this has me literally burnt out 3 days into buying the expansion..

The quest tracker was sending me to 53.7, 80.2 but the NPC wasn't there. I had to actually go to 59.5, 76.2 which confused me for awhile.

If you don't know how to use co-ordinates, install the TomTom Addon and type /way 59.5, 76.2

Getting and turning in the quest:
There are two Majordomo Selistra's in the area:
- first one near the dungeon, from whom you get the quest /way 59.46, 76.14
- second one where you normally turn the quest in /way 53.69, 80.21
Sometimes the turnin marker is bugged and tells you to go to the wrong one, just check both spawns if hes not there for you.

The quest spear debuff
The quest item is usable on the dragons you need to slay. At the point of writing this, that spear gives you a 300% dmg Buff against the dragon hit, and it does 50% reduced dmg to you. Insanely important to be able to kill these guys with the powerlevel you likely have at this point of the campaign. (Based on previous comments, the spear seems to have been buffed)

I was expecting the ruby spear to take the Proto Drake from Elite to regular, but it seems to do....nothing? It still hits me with fear right after, still stomps me into the rock pretty quickly. Has my evoker signed up to work at a piercing shop at the mall? Inquiring minds want to know if I get discounts at the food court or maybe armor repair shop....

The NPC dialogue that takes place during this quest:

Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: You will not harm the eggs. I protect the Life Pools.

Raszageth says: Pathetic tool of the titans. You are no true dragon.
Raszageth says: Do they know the truths you kept from them? How you locked us away? Denied our existence?

Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: It was the only path to peace! The war that divided dragonkind had to end!
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: We were meant to be the guardians of Azeroth. The forces you seek to unleash will imperil us all!

Raszageth says: False Queen! It is your blind allegiance to the titans that threatens this world.

The mobs for this quest may have received a nerf, because I was able to kill the proto-drakes rather easily on an under-geared rogue. That being said, I didn't attempt to kill any of them until I had killed Klozicc the Ascended - as suggested by goldanthrowolf in his comment - so that could have something to do with it.

I decided not to turn this quest in right away. It's a great way to level skinning, got lots of blue items as well as several "knowledge" items. Once you kill your first three drakes, the spear stays in your bag until you turn the quest in.

If you are like me and forgot to grab the 2nd quest that was offered (Egg Evac) then Majordomo won't be where the game tells you he will be, in the cave, but back where he originally gave you the quest. He seems to only move down there once you have/finished both quests.

Before you work on this quest, pick up Wanted: Fenistrasza's Skull from the wanted poster in Dragonscale Basecamp. Go see Tarjin the Blind and he will give you the quest, Tarjin's Tales, to collect five Impressive Dragon Skulls. Return to Flashfrost Enclave to kill four elite dragons. Once you turn in Proto-Fight, you will get Cut Off the Head to kill Jadzigeth, who will drop the fifth skull. Afterward, you can return to Tarjin the Blind to turn in his quest and to pick up Fenistrasza's Skull, which is on the ground nearby.
