WE BEAT THE AVALOREN ALLEGATIONS! YES WE DID!
This Blizzcon is a Clownfiesta...
Why sell one expansion with underwhelming content if you can spread it out and sell it 3 times…
Having some sort of "game plan" on how a story would go is actually not so bad.Yeah, they always said that they know what a next few expansions would be before, but it never felt like that in terms of a story/narrative - usually last expansions story either felt completely forgotten(like Cataclysm/MOP/WOD/LEGION), with stories/characters/gameplay features from those expansion scrapped, or worse, completely invalidated with the new expansion(BFA/SWL).So, if they would actually, properly, think through how the story would play out, if they flesh out and expand gameplay features from expansion to expansion and make it a proper part of experience - then that doesn't sound bad. Depends on the execution.First thing I really liked on this Blizzcon.
Transparency is nice for sure. Think more people would have held put for legion if they knew it was coming behind wod. Plus them planning out the story further in advance should make it more flushed out (as in planned out in advanced enough to where it can be reported as such)
If you want to try and copy FFXIV make sure your writers are up to the task, Danuser and the current writing team are not up to task.
Finally they start making continuity a thing
Gotta say - Metzen knows how to sell it better than the rest of them combined. Good to have him back at least. Plan's grandiose, though, hope they do not falter...
These won't be like regular expansions. This is a business model change to better align with Microsoft. Things will start to look more like something between major patches and expansions. Not a bad thing, but how it will be going forward.
I instantly thought of Marvel Eternals from this. All this talk of Titan conspiracy and "someone" inside Azeroth. They farming us to create titans, void guys will be good guys at the end trying to stop it.
I'm not sure how I feel about this triple expansion reveal format, seems a bit odd.It brings clarity and sense of story direction, but it dampens the hype for the "next big thing".I'd personally prefer them to tell us about the three-part story, but leave out any info and names. It boils down to how much faster the new expansions will release in comparison to older ones.Also... if the expansion format is going to change, will the expansion prices change too?
I'm sold. I like the new direction. Fast expansion cadence will keep the game fresh. Gimme some old gods.
So they are turning major patch changes into individual expansions so they can charge them more often? No thanks.
